Introducing the 2024-25 MRHS Journalism Students: Seniors!

Addison B. is a dynamic force in and out of the classroom. She is a Texas girl through and through, misplaced in the unusual state of Colorado which she now calls home. Though surprising to some, Addison brings an unfiltered, raw perspective to journalism—a passion discovered amidst a whirlwind of extracurriculars. Whether officiating on the sports field, coaching young athletes, or harmonizing in church, Addison is constantly on the move. Addison is a frequent traveler with a zest for life. She brings an energetic, no-nonsense approach to her writing, offering readers an unvarnished take on the world. When not on the go, you can find her catching some well-deserved rest in her bed, always ready to tell it like it is, with a touch of humor and lightheartedness. Caroline V. is a dedicated student at Mountain Range High School that prefers going to cross country practice after school rather than sitting in math class. Being a student athlete has been such a motivation for her because she loves having little to no down time throughout her days. She recently got her private pilots license and enjoys soaring through the sky in a Cessna 172 during her free time. She found her passion at a very young age and that was running. Running has always been a part of her personality, whether it is racing during track and cross country or just simply going on a 6 mile run for fun. She knows it sounds crazy! She likes to write research papers rather than papers based on her own thoughts and when it comes to poems, she doesn’t like to write or read them. Caroline is often hanging out with family. She especially loves to go fly fishing with her sisters. When she isn’t hanging out with her family, she is hanging out with her friends. They often watch movies together or go on random late night drives. Although writing has never been a favorite of hers, her goal is to continue to improve as a writer as the years go by.

Christian M. is one of the most extraordinary authors of the contemporary period. From his works as an English student to his more current wave of journalistic pieces, he has secured himself as one of the writers of all time. His early tellings of his interests like music, and all sorts of eventful moments throughout his life created a more personal feel to this author. His current work as a journalist should back his versatility in the writing field, as his capacity to write expands further. Mountain Range High School, where Matthies resides, will see a new extent to journalism surrounding the school as well as popular culture and world wide events. As a persistent writer, Matthies has written pages and pages of just happenstance, and though many don’t see into his journal, he plans to open his talent to the world.

Dawson T. is a senior at Mountain Range High School that spends more time reading manga on his phone than reading instructions for his assignments. He gets by despite this, however. Dawson is an enjoyer of all animated media such as cartoons, anime, and even manga and some video games. He doesn't participate in many extracurricular activities and those he does are usually unremarkable. He has a passion for creativity, especially when it comes to creations with thematic depth to them worthy of introspection. When not at school, he can often be found in the manga section of book stores since manga’s the only type of book he’ll read for fun. He enjoys music but since he listens to mostly Japanese music or stuff from indie musicians. His taste isn’t something many people will relate to. He hopes that what he writes will entertain, educate, or simply occupy your time with something that's not an utter waste of time.

Ella G. is a Senior at Mountain Range this year. She spends most of her time balancing school, work, and extracurricular activities like tennis and Student Government. She used to hate writing and hated reading even more. However, that all changed when she started her Freshman year at Mountain Range. Each year, her love for English got even stronger, due to the amazing English teachers (Mrs. Sutphin, Ms. Burdge, and Mrs. Williams), who taught her how to use writing as an outlet. She was elected by the class of 2025 to be Senior Class President this school year. School spirit keeps her afloat and you’ll probably see her at most school events. She may seem shy from the outside, but after one conversation she’ll already be asking to hang out. Most of all, Ella enjoys hanging out with her friends. She spends more time exploring with her friends than she does at home or school. Ella can’t wait to be done with school, though, she hopes to continue spreading positive vibes throughout Mountain Range during her last year.

Isabella G. is a moody teen who claims she's not a people person. Although she loves to stay inside to cozy up with a good book, she'll never turn down the opportunity to hang out with her friends. Having loved reading for as long as she can remember but never really had any talent when it came to writing, she was pretty shocked when she won her first ever writing competition in middle school for best fiction. She likes to think she's grown as a writer, now being able to write more than a few paragraphs without getting bored. She's excited to be in Journalism, as she’s ready to take on a more challenging obstacle such as writing everyday to improve her skills. A good horror movie or book that makes her want to sleep with the lights on is all she really needs in life to be happy. When she's not at school, you can find her at work or out shopping for some ridiculous items (like an inflatable gummy bear chair) that she doesn't actually need but says she might need later in life. Even though she enjoys school, graduation can't come fast enough. She's ready to move on to bigger and better things in life.

Isabella T. is a quiet teen who can be found with airpods in her ears and a caffeinated drink in her hand. She is an MRHS Senior going on to more schooling to become a nurse. She is influenced by Colleen Hoover. She will write about the student body's opinions. She lettered in academics for sports medicine last year. Because of her sports medicine program she is graduating as a personal trainer. She adores late night car rides and her favorite season is fall. She spends summers working at waterworld and a side job of babysitting. She wants to be a pediatric nurse working at a big hospital. When she is outside of class you can find her in her bed drinking dutch bros or red bull and writing or watching tv on her computer. She can be found on insta, and snap at the handle @ithi.1014.

Nathan C. is a reserved 12th grade MRHS  journalism student. He aspires to maintain good grades for his last year in high school as well as get several articles published on topics he’s passionate about. In his free time, he loves to read science fiction, post-apocalyptic & and horror novels. His personal favorites are Bird Box and The Postman, but he would also love to read The Passage one day. He can be found consistently writing about random stories he comes up with, his writing style doesn't really have a source of inspiration but is more of an amalgamation of years of trial and error. Aside from reading and writing, Nathan mainly plays the guitar and drums, as well as some other instruments. When he’s not doing schoolwork or working on perfecting his hobbies, Nathan can be found in Cold Stone Creamery where he has worked his way up to a shift lead. While he may not get paid that much he loves his job and the people he works with. He also has an amazing cat named Shwoop who will turn 1 year old on November 8th! He continues to use his passion to try and be the best at everything he does and will apply that to his journalism this year and is excited for all the topics he will write about.

Tarah M. is a busy senior who truly lives to learn. People always knew that she loved to read and write, but nobody expected her to actually do something with it. Tarah wrote her first short story that she was proud of in the sixth grade. Her teacher, Ms. Harrison told her that she had some real potential to be a writer and she took that to heart. Since then, she has written multiple other short stories and blurbs, but has never shown them to anybody. Tarah has found inspiration in many romance novels and fantasy books. She is heavily influenced by Sarah J. Mass and Stephanie Myer. She loves animals and will give any baby a cuddle. When she’s out of high school, she dreams of getting a degree in Journalism and moving to the countryside on a farm. She excels in math classes and is part of the Mountain Range color guard and winter guard. When she’s not in class, she is either at work, practice, doing homework, or sleeping.
