As students, we look up to teachers and deans for help. Many of which fulfill our needs and we are satisfied. But have we ever stopped to go and get to know them, surely a few of us but not many. For those who know them, congrats to your acknowledgment. But for those who hadn't noticed, we have a couple of new deans.
One in particular you have seen around at assemblies or roaming the halls; is Mrs. Hendrix Johnson also known as Mrs. HJ.
As deans in the building, we need someone willing and involved with the school spirit. For those who don't know, Mrs. HJ is enthusiastic about her new role in her career while still engaged with the students. Mrs Hendrix states she loves the school most for its “diversity and how it's not just one setting.”
She then continues to compliment the environment she works in and says how much of a joy the staff is, “everyone is so supportive” and gives her great feedback all the time. Moving from an old school due to a lack of happiness with her 27-28 year teaching career as a social studies teacher, she needed to change to have “a fresh start”. With the ups and downs of letting go of students she loved and the friends Mrs. HJ attained, knowing what to come next was all but to her. An oblivion that would soon turn into a great new and refreshing start.
Here are the things to know; Mrs. HJ loves to hike and used to bike but now cooks and bakes more. These are only a few things we can learn about Mrs. HJ. Mrs. Hendrix believes that “some much of the school throughout the years is the same, the students and teachers talking the same way, the way we care about each other. The heart of being in high school is the same!” She then continued on to say how the only biggest changes are drugs and access to these items as well as the increase of violence. “Heart is the same but physicalities are different.”
As students, being vigilant of characteristics in school admin that are positive and not demeaning toward anyone is an excruciating necessity for our small community. And Mrs.Hendrix is the right fit for the positive environment we strive for. Some things she brings to the table to make the school a better place are following rules and driving for the team effort to embrace the rules and influence them and hold students and each other accountable in any manner as needed.
We welcome you Mrs. Hendrix-Johnson to Mountain Range High School with a hope and willingness to ensure you that a warm and inviting place is here to endure.
