Mountain Range's annual PowderPuff game between the seniors and Juniors took place at the North Stadium on Wednesday September 18th; during their Homecoming week. With seniors being back to back champs with the final score being 22- 6.
PowderPuff is a flag football game between junior and senior girls competing against each other in front of the whole school. Whoever wins gets the school’s trophy. Both teams have two weeks of practice, separate from each other. Different teachers coach the girls to get them ready for the game; the coaches this year were Ms.Jacobs, Mrs.Ramirez, Mr.Gonzales, Mrs.Johnson, and Mountain Ranges SRO Mr. Gonzales.
When asked how events like this bring the community together, students stated that “It divides us, yet connects us in the same way” and it's a friendly competition. The powerpuff game is more than a competition, it’s a popular tradition that brings everyone together in a unique way. This event provides a chance for students, parents, and teachers to come together and show their spirit. From the energetic cheers to the teamwork on the field, this game shows the power of enthusiasm and community pride.
Some of the senior players favorite moments of the game were, “ the first time when you're about to get on the field! “ said by Merva K. This shows the excitement and enjoyment of being able to play. Another response was “ When I was a starter on defense!” Beverly C.
As the game came to an end, the field was filled with laughter and excitement from both teams. The girls had become more than a team. This event showcased not only the athletic talents of the participants but also the unwavering support of the students, parents, and teachers. The annual PowderPuff game served as a reminder of the power of coming together to support others. With all the memories of this year's game fresh in our minds, there are many more events to look forward to.
