Sustainable Summer: Where to go for Summer Style

Updated: Sep 28, 2021

Finding ethically sourced, environmentally friendly, and affordable places to shop for summer trends is difficult. When you find a store with clothes in style, they can be produced immorally and sacrifice either price or quality for the consumer. So, here are five places locally that can help you achieve an affordable quality wardrobe fit for the season.

1: Arc Thrift Store in Broomfield

Address: 6500 W 120th Ave, Broomfield, CO 80020

Thrifting is a great way to reduce waste and be environmentally friendly. It also has a vast selection of clothes and some good finds. This specific arc has so many new things every time you go, making for a fun adventure that results in a low number on your receipt and a cute new wardrobe. They also have a considerable toy selection and tons of Webkinz that you can bring home and love. Arc Thrift Stores’ mission is to help people and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities and donates what they earn to places like Advocacy Denver Chapters in Colorado, so you know when you leave with your newest outfit and stuffed animal you've helped donate to a good cause.

2: My Best Friend's Closet

Address: 14694 Orchard Pkwy Suite A-220, Westminster, CO 80023

My Best Friend's Closet is a store conveniently located in the orchard shopping center. In this store, you can buy and sell clothes. You can find tons of cute clothes in a way that is more navigable than a typical thrift store. They buy used clothing rather than accept donations and run for a profit. There is more of an exclusive tone and prices are slightly higher than at a thrift store.

3. Pact

Address: 3200 Carbon Pl, Boulder, CO 80301

“Earth's Favorite™ Clothing” Pact Apparel provides comfortable clothing options at a reasonable price, which are always made with organic cotton and ethically sourced labor. Unlike the others on the list so far, this shop is available online, which is a convenient and safe way to shop during covid and provides peace of mind for some people who are uncomfortable in clothes others have worn.

4. Swoon Swimwear

Swoon Swimwear is a good brand for around summertime as it focuses on swimsuits. Although more expensive than others on this list, Swoon Swimwear makes all of its suits out of recycled bottles to reduce waste and repurpose what would otherwise aid in destroying the environment.

5. Mile High Thrift Store

Address: 650 Malley Dr, Northglenn, CO 80233

To end the list is another Thrift Store that is for-profit, unlike most other thrift stores. This store still has hidden treasures that are gems to find. Their clothes are organized by color, making shopping for a specific look far more straightforward than in others. They get bulk shoes and clothes from designers for low prices that will add magic to your next outfit.

Of course, it can be hard to thrift and find cute things, and sustainable clothing brands can be expensive. These five are good options but are understandably not for everyone. Shopping sustainability can help your closet and the environment in many ways. Safe shopping.
