Early morning on Tuesday, January 21st, the Athletic Complex was vandalized. The damages were 14 windows and two of the doors, some of the glass being completely broken, and some being only shattered.  Although there were no eyewitnesses, there were helpful tips given by anonymous people in the community. Mountain Range’s SRO, Officer Gonzalez, was the one to identify and solve who was responsible for this act of vandalism. Parents and students received an email addressing the matter on January 21st at 10:04 a.m.

A similar incident occurred with our Cafeteria windows about 11 or 12 years ago. I know that the assailant was apprehended, charged and had to pay some monetary amount, but that was before me so I am not sure on specific details,” stated Brandon Salling, one of the assistant principals at Mountain Range. To prevent possible future incidents such as these, the parking lot lights will remain on all night. Another precaution that will be taken if needed, is an update on the cameras around school which the superintendent has already authorized.

The district and glass companies have been notified and have since visited to view the damages. There has been no official estimate of the cost to repair the damages at this time. The glass for the windows are custom ordered, so once the estimate is approved, it could take an additional 6 weeks before the windows and doors can be replaced. Mr. Salling commented, “Right now a hopeful timeline would have completion during the week of March 10th.” Mountain Range staff are disappointed an occurrence such as this has happened, but grateful to find out it was not a student.
