We are only three months into 2022, and Kanye has already started some stuff with Pete Davidson. Now for context, I think everyone and their mothers knew Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were married. Keyword, were. Actually, a couple days ago, Kanye pretty much announced they were officially divorced on his Instagram account that has been through so much in the past few weeks but we’ll get to that. Of course this meant that eventually, the both of them would indulge in new, budding romances now that they are no longer together. Kim did find someone to do just that. Pete Davidson or “Skete” if you’re a hardcore fan of Kanye.
It seemed like Kanye wasn’t exactly happy about Kim’s new relationship though, if a song called “Eazy'' which featured The Game was anything to say about. The lyrics do include Kanye talking about solely surviving his crash from 2002 in order to beat Pete Davidson but the music video was too much. I will only say so much because it’s honestly baffling. It depicts a claymation Kanye hurting Pete Davidson, kidnapping him and much more. Despite the ending saying, “EVERYONE LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER … EXCEPT SKETE YOU KNOW WHO. JK HE’S FINE,” people were honestly concerned. Like really concerned.
While some of his more fervent fans called it a masterpiece, many were honestly in disbelief. Many do think that harming someone in the form of claymation is not art as Kanye referred to it. Especially when many already know how he’s been harassing Pete Davidson just for being with Kim. This isn’t even the only beef he’s had this year, though.
Although these aren’t in the spotlight as much, Kid Cudi and Billie Eilish are also targets for Kanye. On February 12, 2022, Kanye posted this on Instagram: “Just so everyone knows Cudi will not be on Donda because he’s friends with you know who.” Which is a shame. Kid Cudi and Kanye had some great music together and to see it all be thrown out of the window due to being friends with Pete Davidson is upsetting.
With Billie however, it’s because Kanye believed she had dissed Travis Scott when she stopped an entire concert when a fan needed an asthma inhaler. She wanted to make sure they were okay. Kanye, of course, went to Instagram and stated he will not be at Coachella until Billie apologizes to Travis Scott. He says “Come on Billie we love you please apologize to Trav and to the families of the people who lost their lives.”
He also has beef with the following: George Bush Jr, Obama, Apple, Spotify, Nike, Peppa pig. Yes, Peppa pig. The list goes on though.
Does it stop there? It’s Kanye, no it does not.
His Instagram became a meme page for an entire week during these events. He posted two marvel memes, one of one of the Venom 2 posters and the other of the movie Civil War. For one of them it said, “Kanye West - Civil War” with Drake, Future, Travis Scott and Julia Fox on his side and Kid Cudi, Kim, Pete, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift on the opposing side. Which is crazy because it feels like he’s been beefing with Taylor Swift for over a decade. Other memes included things like Kanye accusing Pete of dating Hillary Clinton because of his tattoo, saying he was Kim’s “BIGGEST W” and calling Pete more names.
But even though much has happened with Kanye that wasn’t great so far this year, there was still Donda 2 and his documentary “Jeen-yuhs.” Donda 2 was honestly a fine album and the documentary was very telling. Despite the insane stuff of this year with Kanye, there was still much to be said about the documentary. Kanye was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2017 which in the documentary, the director, Coodie, said was something that he never would have realized. All this time Kanye was suffering. It was also explained in the documentary that Kanye experiences maniac episodes which can explain his recent behaviors. He even talked about how he needed his medication in order to speak to people, “to turn alien to English.”
It’s obvious that Kanye is going through much more and it doesn’t help that his comments are filled with enablers and he’s surrounded by them as well. Not to mention that he never let himself grieve over his mother, Donda, when she died and only drowned himself in his work. It can’t be easy to lose someone so close and it may be one of the factors of his later behaviors. Kanye does need some form of help but it doesn’t excuse some of his behaviors and far he’s taken some things.
